A Jamaican native with music to inspire a generation. With his new radio show "Musical Uprising" soaring the Connecticut airwaves, you can get a taste
of real uplifting reggae music. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, a city recognized internationally for its reggae music. Johnny took to music at the very young age of 12. Johnny began his journey Admiring the likes of a popular Jamaican sound system, "Supersonic" featuring DJ's lieutenant Stitchie, Papa San and Johnny Lemon. With the ambition and determination to become a music icon, Johnny acted upon his instincts to introduce his own sound system; At age 16 he moved to Ewarton, St. Catherine where he became a disc Joc at his Fathers night club.He played five nights a week, motivating people with his sound and gaining popularity form the local crowd. One of Johnny's regular guests was the to become, superstar "Bennie Man".
Putting his musical career on hold, Johnny took to playing professional soccer. Through his early years, Johnny was an avid soccer player, gaining popularity amongst his peers with regular features in the local newspaper. Johnny's professional soccer team was called the Black Lion Football Club. Also a member of the team was his brother, Whimpy. They called them both the Mitchell Brothers. Though soccer was a great sport for Johnny, his music talent once again propelled itself to the forefront of his career. To achieve his goals, Johnny moved to New York City with one thing on mind "success". Now with a new sound, Johnny began performing in various New York hot spots. For the next few years Johnny would hone his craft, develop his voice and talents distinguishing him from the crowd.
Johnny would later team up with an old friend from Jamaica, whom he formed a record label with called Upliftment Records. Upliftment Records was a Rap, Reggae and R&B label with a different outlook. Their aim was set at delivering positive lyrical content and sending out a positive vibe to the people. Signing two acts, their attempt to conquer and emerge in the scene was short lived. The label fell apart, leaving Johnny, once again with a dream yet to be fulfilled but conquerable.
Over the years Johnny had always recorded his songs, continuously wrote lyrics about his life experiences. Johnny's musical journey is compiled into his debut album "Words Of Wisdom". This album will take you on a journey through time, fill the minds of many with nothing but positive musical uprisings. You can listen to Johnny on One Love Radio, 106.5 FM Bridgeport, Connecticut, every Saturday from 8:30 AM till Around Noon.
